AI Meeting Notes Nobody Reads: Why Summaries Aren't Enough and What Comes Next
By now, most knowledge workers have tried an AI meeting notetaker. Fireflies, Otter, Fathom, Granola, tl;dv — they all transcribe your calls with remarkable accuracy and generate a polished summary before you've closed your laptop.
And then nobody reads it.

The result: 79% of AI meeting notes miss action items, decisions, or clear next steps. 84% summarize discussion but not decisions. 7 out of 10 verbal commitments disappear entirely.
The Summary That Shipped Nothing
Here's a scenario most engineers have lived through.
Sprint planning on a Tuesday. The team agrees to refactor the authentication flow, assign three tickets to different engineers, unblock a PR that's been waiting since Monday, and schedule a follow-up with the infrastructure team about deployment access.
The AI notetaker produces a beautiful summary. Decisions, action items, four bullet points, crisp. It gets posted to #engineering-general.
By Thursday, nothing has moved. The refactor ticket was never created. The blocked PR is still blocked. The infra meeting was never scheduled.
